Comparison
Sol AI vs AlsoEnergy PowerTrack
PowerTrack is AlsoEnergy's application for commissioning, monitoring, optimising and controlling clean energy portfolios, and AlsoEnergy also sells the on-site hardware behind it: weather sensors, data acquisition systems (DAS), SCADA and controls. AlsoEnergy is part of Stem. Sol AI is narrower and lighter: it installs nothing, reads each inverter maker's cloud, and spends its effort on one question — which sites are losing the most money tonight, and did the repair actually work.
| AlsoEnergy PowerTrack | Sol AI | |
|---|---|---|
| What it does | Commissioning, monitoring, optimising and controlling a clean energy portfolio, including batteries | Monitoring only. Read-only — it never changes a setting on the equipment |
| Segments | Utility, commercial and industrial, and aggregated residential | Residential and commercial fleets, often on mixed brands |
| On-site hardware | Offers edge hardware: weather sensors, DAS, on-site SCADA and controls | None. Reads the data the inverters already send to their makers' clouds |
| Third-party equipment | Hardware agnostic; supports data from third-party vendors | 18 inverter brands in one view |
| Workflow | Integrates with third-party CMMS and BI tools | Each problem is a case, priced in dollars a day, kept open until production proves the fix |
| Owner | AlsoEnergy, part of Stem; PowerTrack now runs on Stem's Athena platform | Modular Intelligence |
| Pricing | Not published on the PowerTrack page | Not published; quoted per fleet on a 20-minute call |

Where PowerTrack wins
Control and depth on large sites. PowerTrack is SCADA as well as monitoring: it can control equipment, configure power plant controllers and manage batteries, on site or remotely. AlsoEnergy supplies the sensors and data acquisition hardware, so a utility-scale or large commercial plant gets measured weather data from its own sensors rather than only what the inverter reports. It covers commissioning through to reporting in one application. If you need to control plants, not just watch them, Sol AI is the wrong tool.
Who should choose AlsoEnergy PowerTrack
Choose PowerTrack if you operate utility-scale or large commercial plants and need on-site data acquisition, SCADA and control, or battery management in the same tool.
Who should choose Sol AI
Choose Sol AI if you hold many smaller sites, do not want hardware on each roof, and need a nightly list of which sites are losing money, ranked, with every repair checked against the site's own production.
FAQ
Questions, answered
What is an alternative to AlsoEnergy PowerTrack for residential and small commercial fleets?
For fleets of many smaller sites where installing data-acquisition hardware on every roof is not practical, a cloud-only monitoring layer is the usual alternative. Sol AI by Modular Intelligence reads each inverter maker's cloud read-only, checks every site nightly against what it should have produced, and ranks problems by dollars lost. It does not do SCADA or control.
Does Sol AI need a data logger or SCADA on site?
No. Sol AI reads the data the inverters already send to their manufacturers' clouds, using read-only access. Nothing is installed on site and nothing is written back to the equipment.
