String fault detection
Find the dead string before the customer does.
Sol AI by Modular Intelligence checks every string the inverter reports, every night, against what it should have produced in that day's weather. A string that stops producing shows up as a gap, even when the inverter raises no fault and the maker's app stays green.
The problem
One dead string does not look like a fault.
A system with one dead string still reports believable total production. Nothing trips, so nothing alarms, and the failure can run for months.
In one case we documented, a 29 kW system ran with 1 of its 3 strings disconnected for 22 days while the manufacturer's app showed green. A third of the system's output was missing, and it only showed up when production was compared against a weather-adjusted baseline.
What we do
How Sol AI catches it
- Each string compared against what it should have made in that day's weather, not against a fixed threshold
- String-level checks wherever the inverter reports string data, and system-level checks everywhere else
- Problems across the whole fleet ranked worst-first, so the first truck goes where it matters most
- The case stays open after the repair until the site's own production shows the fix worked
- Nothing to install: the string data already goes to the maker's cloud, and Sol AI reads it there
AI agents on your team
The AI agents doing the work.
Onboarding agent
Starts watching a new site the day it's switched on.
The day a site comes online, the Onboarding agent starts reading it. By the end of the first week it knows what that site should make in its own weather.
Baseline ready — week onePerformance agent
Every night, checks every site and string against what it should have made.
Every night it compares every site against what it should have produced that day — down to each string (a row of panels wired together) where the inverter reports them. It prices each problem — “losing $28 a day” — and puts the most expensive first.
Losing $28 a dayCase agent
Owns each problem until the site proves it's producing again.
Each problem gets a case, and the Case agent keeps it open after the repair visit. It closes only when the site's own production shows the fix worked — “Fixed ✓ verified”.

Questions, answered
What is string-level monitoring?
String-level monitoring tracks the output of each string of panels (a row of panels wired together) rather than only the system total. It catches failures that leave the total looking normal, such as one disconnected string on a system with several.
Why doesn't the inverter alarm on a dead string?
Because the rest of the system keeps producing, so the total still looks plausible and nothing trips. In one case we documented, a 29 kW system ran with 1 of its 3 strings disconnected for 22 days while the manufacturer's app showed green.
Does string fault detection need extra hardware?
Not with Sol AI. It reads the string data the inverter already sends to its maker's cloud. Where an inverter does not report strings, Sol AI checks the system as a whole.
