Comparison
Sol AI vs Solar-Log
Solar-Log and Sol AI are both independent of any one inverter maker, and they get their data in opposite ways. Solar-Log puts a data logger on site — Solar-Log Base — which talks to the inverters and also handles feed-in rules and energy management, and sends data to its Solar-Log WEB Enerest 4 portal. Sol AI installs nothing: it reads each inverter maker's cloud. That one choice drives most of the differences below.
| Solar-Log | Sol AI | |
|---|---|---|
| How data is collected | On-site data logger (Solar-Log Base) wired to the inverters; compatible third-party loggers also accepted | Read-only from each inverter maker's cloud. No logger, no site visit to connect |
| Equipment coverage | Over 3,800 compatible components from 179 manufacturers | 18 inverter brands supported in one view |
| Control on site | The logger implements legally required feed-in regulation and energy management | None. Sol AI never writes to the equipment |
| Finding faults | Compares normalised output across inverters to find failures, down to MPP-tracker level | Checks every site nightly against what it should have made in that day's weather, down to each string where the inverter reports them |
| Ranking | Alerts when new errors are detected, shown in the Enerest ToGo app | Every problem priced in dollars a day and ranked, most expensive first |
| Built for | Commercial and industrial customers, O&M companies, installers, energy suppliers and grid operators | Installers, O&M providers, site owners and lenders with fleets on mixed brands |
| Pricing | No public price list on the product pages | Not published; quoted per fleet on a 20-minute call |

Where Solar-Log wins
Breadth of equipment and control on site. Solar-Log works with more than 3,800 components from 179 manufacturers, not only inverters. Because the logger sits on site, it can do things a cloud reader cannot: carry out the feed-in limits that grid rules require and manage energy on the premises. For a commercial plant that needs grid-compliant control, that is a real requirement, and Sol AI does not meet it.
Who should choose Solar-Log
Choose Solar-Log if your sites need on-site control — feed-in limits, energy management — or equipment that has no manufacturer cloud, and you are able to install a logger at each site.
Who should choose Sol AI
Choose Sol AI if your systems already report to their makers' clouds, you would rather not visit each site to fit hardware, and you want a nightly ranked list of which sites are losing money and proof each repair held.
FAQ
Questions, answered
Do I need a data logger to monitor solar systems from different inverter brands?
Not always. A logger such as Solar-Log reads the inverters on site and can also control them. A cloud-based layer such as Sol AI by Modular Intelligence reads the data the inverters already send to their makers' clouds, so nothing is installed. A logger is needed for on-site control or equipment with no cloud; a cloud reader is quicker to roll out across many sites.
Can Sol AI enforce feed-in limits or control inverters?
No. Sol AI is read-only. It finds underperforming sites and strings, prices each problem and tracks the repair, but it never changes a setting on the equipment.
